Becoming a Mosaic

Scroll

For this project we had to create an installment using the site given (the courtyard between Keller Hall, shown on the right) to incorporate the theme of social injustice and inclusivity along with the typologies of cluster, platforms, and competing.

The most movement seen on this site was on the main path going through the circular space at the center of the courtyard. To get the most attention and interaction with the installation it was chosen to be placed in this location.

To encourage social justice and inclusivity on the site, the installation includes connecting and intertwining ropes that bridges competing pillars into a cluster around the center of the site creating a platform of interlaced ropes and stain glass pieces of the rainbow. These pillars represent each of us within society. Although we may be competing separately, we all are needed to unite and connect within our community in order to form a beautiful mosaic masterpiece.

In this section you can see how the installation is also interactive. Here the child can pull on the rope on one side of the site and it moves the ropes in the middle, causing the shadows from the stained glass to move and dance along the individual in the middle of the site.
